All good things come with time......
5 Stars
All good things come with time......
Be patient. I've read rough reviews on this thing in multiple places. People expect way too much from this little one gallon magician. Make a simple sugar wash....1 cup sugar, 1 tsp red star yeast (activated for 2 minutes in warm water) and top off with H2O in a 1 gallon jug with an air lock or a simple loose cap. Keep it at about 75°F and in about 10 days it'll start to clear. You'll get about 1 and 1/2 Mason jars of 40%-60% Vodka. It literally costs less than a dollar....and it's waaaay better than cheap Russian rotgut. Run the still for 1 hour....and then it'll start spitting out "juice". I always discard the first 30ml (1 shot) in case there's methanol in it. After that run it for 45 minutes more and collect the sweet alcohol in a container. Put an empty container under the spout for 30 more minutes and you'll get cutting juice. Filter that cutting juice in a Britta container 3 times to remove the burnt yeast taste and add it to your strong stuff. The end result is enjoyable. Can't say enough. Be patient, it's not a 10 gallon fire still, but it's awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Hydrosol Distillation
Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2023
The Still Spirits AirStill makes distilling quality hydrosol a pleasure! I'm not using it for essential oil distillation, I just want the water distillate for use in natural skin care, aromatherapy, and green cleaning. So far, I've distilled chamomile (pictured, with some essential oil floating on the surface), lavender, spearmint, catnip, sage, basil, tulsi, juniper, pine tips, and fir tips. Each one has been lovely (I added a copper wire nest over the material to improve quality). It's a much cooler way to distill hydrosol while the plants are in season as it doesn't heat my kitchen like a alembic still. If you want to distill your own hydrosol, I highly recommend.
