Vevor is a brand of small alcohol stills that’s popular on Aliexpress and Amazon. They have about 16 different units in their range, each with slightly different functions, capacities or hardware. They also sell them in a variety of different sizes and with different accessories

The purpose of this article is to unpack all this information and make it simple for to understand;

  • Is a Vevor still suitable for your needs?
  • Which Vevor still is best for YOU?

First, What is Vevor? (The Vevor Homewares Brand)

Vevor is a manufacturer of a wide variety of alcohol stills. The brand itself is a ‘white-labeling’ of a generic still product from a Chinese factory. Through their selling on Amazon, in particular, this ‘homewares’ brand has grown to command a good reputation for affordable goods at a reasonable price.

These stills differ in type, capacity, material, size, and weight. Each still is unique with its own strengths and specialties. These stills range from basic pot stills to pot stills with a thumper, and pot stills with a rectification tower. In this Vevor Still alcohol review, we will explore these different types of stills, what they are good for, and how to use them.

What Types Of Stills Do Vevor Make?

Vevor makes primarily pot stills, although they offer a few column-style still which use a packed ‘rectification’ chamber to create the reflux effect.

The table below illustrates what Vevor’s range of stills entails.

Still TypeCapacity
Basic Pot Still3gal, 5gal, 8gal, 9.6gal, 13.2gal
Pot Still With Thumper5gal, 8gal, 9.6gal, 13.2gal
Still with Rectification Tower5gal, 8gal, 9.6gal, 13.2gal

A Word On Pricing:

Vevor sell mainly through Amazon, Aliexpress and their own website, Vevor.com.

Interestingly, the prices are different between all these platforms.

I compared the prices on my personal favorite, the 50L Rectification Still in the table below, and it’s by far the cheapest on their website.

StorePrice
Amazon$249 USD
Aliexpress$205 USD
Vevor $195 USD
(And another 5% cheaper with our discount)

I emailed Vevor before writing this article to understand why. They replied explaining that the Amazon price is higher due to the fees charged by Amazon. Same goes for AliExpress, but the fees are less. They have recently opened a US warehouse so now can fulfill orders fast and cheaply, and therefore can pass those savings onto the consumer!

What To Look For When Buying A Vevor Still?

The type of still you should use is widely dependent on various factors such as:

  • Spirits: What sort of spirits do you want to make?
  • Storage: How much space do you have?
  • Capacity: What size batches do you want to produce?

1. Spirits: What type of product do you want to produce?

A basic pot still and pot stills with a thumper are used for producing a range of products, such as whiskey, brandy, rum, tequila, gin, and essential oils.

Their still with a rectification tower is used for creating neutral alcohol like vodka or NGS for making gin or liqueurs.

2. Storage: How much space do you have for equipment?

These stills range in size from small to large. It is important to consider the amount of space you have for setting up equipment. It is crucial to factor in ventilation and safety protocols and procedures within that space.

3. Capacity: What size batches do you want to process?

Each still is capable of producing a different-sized batch, ranging from small to large batches. The size of still you will want to use depends on the amount of material you want to process per batch.

When running a stripping run, you’ll get 5-10% of the volume of wash distilled as final product. That mean’s (in simple terms) to make a 1L batch of whiskey, you’ll need a 10L still*

*Yes, there’s a lot of ways round this. You could strip down multiple batches and combine in a final product run, or make a higher ABV wash – but my point is that your still needs to be much bigger than you might think it does!

Vevors’s Range of Stills

Vevor’s Basic Pot Stills

This kit uses an open cooling method. A copper coil has rapid thermal conductivity and a large contact area with coolant. This provides a lower distillation temperature. A rubber pad underneath the condenser can be used to insulate and accelerate cooling. This kit uses a real-time thermometer on the lid with a dual display of Celsius and Fahrenheit. This is very useful for monitoring the temperature of the wine during the distillation process

Vevor’s Pot Stills with Thumper

This kit uses an open cooling method. A copper coil has rapid thermal conductivity and a large contact area with coolant. This provides a lower distillation temperature. A circulating water pump attaches to save cooling water. A rubber pad underneath the condenser can be used to insulate and accelerate cooling. This kit uses a real-time thermometer on the lid with a dual display of Celsius and Fahrenheit. This is very useful for monitoring the temperature of the wine during the distillation process. The thumper keg is used to discharge hot water vapor. This helps to evaporate alcohol for secondary distillation.

Vevor Pot Stills with Rectification Tower

How to use:

This kit uses top-notch impurity filtration. Using a pack of ceramic balls inside, the rectifying tower can filter out impurities in the vapor at high-boiling temperatures. This process gives the higher-purity wine access to a condenser and leads to a higher distillation purity in the product.

This still uses stainless steel coiled tubes for rapid thermal conductivity. This assures a promising cooling performance, along with a large contact area of coolant, and provides a low temperature for the distilled product. During the distillation process, supplemental water circulating allows the expedited flow of the condensing agent.

Conclusion ‘

Vevor’s offering is a novice distillers dream.

They have a great range of basic hobby stills for every size and purpose.

No, they aren’t top quality, full copper, connected with sanitary tri-clamp fittings.. but they don’t need to be.

I wet my feet with a Vevor still, and even though now I run a much bigger (and more expensive) kit, I still use Vevor still for a quick test batch.

Recommendation: If this is your first still, i’d recommend getting their pot still

Hello, I received an email from Amazon saying the product (VEVOR Alcohol Still, 30L Water Alcohol Distiller, 6.6 UK Gal Wine Making Boiler) was recalled “due to the following risk: non-compliance (does not meet health and safety regulations).” Would anyone know why? Many thanks!

Thanks for answering! I got it shipped from Amazon.co.uk. Tried to contact Vevor multiple times but they are stalling.
