The key attraction of whiskey stones is they can provide the same cooling effect of ice, but won’t melt and dilute the beverage. If you drink your spirits neat, and not adding water is important to you, then whiskey stones are the way to go.
Whiskey stones are made from food-grade materials such as stainless, granite, and soapstone, so they will not affect the flavor of your drink
I use whiskey stones all the time in my distillery and home bar (not just for Whiskey but for Gin and other spirits too!). My 3 favorite stones are these;

Why Use A Whiskey Stone?
Whiskey stones are stone or metal objects that can be used to chill whiskey. They are cooled in the freezer before being added to your drink in the same way as ice.
The most significant advantage of utilizing whiskey stones is that they do not dilute your drink because they do not melt. This allows you to appreciate your whiskey in its purest form or the “sweet spot” when the mixer and whiskey are perfectly balanced.

This type of whiskey stone is a must-have on any list of the top whiskey stones. These stainless steel whiskey stones are among the best available.
Rabbit is a well-known brand for high-quality drinks equipment, and these gigantic stainless steel cooling cubes are no different. This set includes two 1.5-inch cubes, but only one is required to cool your beverage instantly.
It also includes a freezer-safe storage container. These sturdy cubes are also odor-resistant and dishwasher safe, making them ideal for use in a rocks glass. There is also the option of custom engraving.

Best Soapstone Whiskey Stone – Quiseen Classic Soapstone Whiskey Stones
These high-quality whiskey stones are handcrafted in Vermont in the country’s oldest soapstone mill and can quickly chill your bourbon without becoming excessively chilly. As they don’t come with any extras like glasses or coasters, they come in a muslin drawstring storage bag that you can use to keep them together while they cool in the freezer – and one pack contains nine stones. These stones are unbeatable in terms of price and quality.
- THE ORIGINAL WHISKY STONES - Teroforma saw the need to fix the issue of melted ice ruining your favorite pour of liquor. To address this, they crafted the first whiskey stones out of soapstone, so you could truly enjoy your whiskey or scotch "on the rocks".
Best Granite Whiskey Stone – Outset Chillware Whiskey Stones
These granite whiskey stones are more effective than other whisky stones. If you’re seeking to modernize your barware, the geometric design in glossy black makes for a stylish whiskey stone. Since they’re three-quarters of an inch each, you may need to utilize more than other options at once.
This whiskey stone set’s overall style is ideal for any occasion. It aids in maintaining the perfect temperature for your whiskey. This set is a sophisticated alternative for whiskey stones at gatherings.

Caring For Your Stones
I thought i’d mention a quick word on caring for your whiskey stones. Its reaaaaly important you on’t let them pick up other flavors that could contaminate your (expensive) whiskey. Try this;
- Keep your stones in a sealed container or zip lock bag in the freezer.
This will prevent them from picking up ‘freezer smell’ from whatever else you’ve got going on there. It also means they’ll always be nice and cold for when you need them, and you wont loose them.
- NEVER use soap or detergent on your stones
Much like how you should never wash a wine or beer glass with soap, you shouldn’t wash your stones either. It’s really hard to get rid of traces of detergent and this will carry over into your drink next time you use the stones. Even a little bit of soap will alter the surface tension of your whiskey and completely change the mouth feel!
If this is your first set of whiskey stones, i’d recommend oyu go for the Rabbit Whiskey jumbo stones.
Why? Because they’re stainless steel which makes them much more durable and easy to care for. And the jumbo size means you just need one rather than faffing about with a bunch of little rocks.
